hi all,
i have try the fantastic tutorial from studio :D , the render speed and quality when I delete the aa blur etc. is now very fast and good.
The render time of the test pic was 7 min.
The idea with the camera mapping for animation is very good.

thx for the very good Tutorial

hi onyx,
not the GI shader the GI-effects Poseffects have I modified.
I delete all post effects, only the GI_blur and GI_brightness-control.
Look the tutor from studio for details.
Now the next render test with more brightness and contrast

hi Jan,
the rendertime was 2h, now I´m testing new GI settings. I have found a very interestedly topic of 3d worxx.
Here is a scene setup to render photorealistic pictures without GI, without radiosity, without lights, nevertheless photorealistic !
How ??? The trick is the material settings, make a skydome as envionment with illumination material. The material to the objects must have a diffuse reflections. Other people mean that this is the technic from Maxwell render. I have try a little scene, it works.
When I have more time, perhaps I will open a new thread.

here the link:

thx

So, in effect, you'll be using the RS GI method without blur ?

Hi Timo,
I don´t use GI !!!!
I use only the VSL shader with reflektion- and look here

Blockbuster, that's exactly how GI works in RS, except it's copied to a custom channel and blurred/composited in post. Not that there's anything wrong with what you're doing, I like to do the same myself: it gives a crisper result (and I'm not too fond of the blur in any case). Just as a small hint, you should use normal instead of reflected ray (and maybe even flip it if it's pointing away from the camera).

wow..! those are some pretty cool caustics

But I'm confused, are they renders from XSI, or have you made a VSL material based on that XSI shader?
If they are VSL is there any chance we could see the material settings? Ive thought about trying a raytracer material for volumetric caustics or GI but never got it to work...

Thanks :D

Adding GI to a volume should be as simple as adding Ray:Illumination+=RayTracer(Volume:Coordinates,Volume:Ray,Volume:Color) to Volume properties, but as a surgeon general's warning: it's slow and ugly.

Hi Timo,
your are right, the render time is to slow with this settings, but your are sure that this the same as RS GI render !
OK, I´m testing a while with RS GI rendering. I´m testing with a test room from Kerkythea web site. , the new render prg.
The first pic is Vray rendering, than come the Kerkythea and the last pic is the RS Rendering. It is not Final, is a test rendering (with low AA) for RS,
because I´m testing and learn RS GI system.
