Here's a case in point :

... 'Default Mapping' . Just dropped a default 'checker' mapping onto an analytical rectangle and of course it rendered as a completely blue mapping . However , draw a parallel mapping and it works out perfectly . So what is up with this 'default mapping' ? Time and time again I find it works perfectly for some materials , but will not work for other materials .

Of course advanced users will be able to tell me why it works or doesn't work , ... ... but my bigger point might be , drop the "for advanced users mentality" . Take a few steps back and concentrate on user friendly-ness , instead .

Originally , the Realsoft3D user community would fill the gap , and take up the slack , as far us letting the average 'Joe" slowly come to grips with the most powerfull features . Those days were awesome , but , however , it appears that many of those great RS teachers are using various 3D softwares now , having migrated and integrated several other solutions in their pipelines .

The Realsoft3D community does not seem to exhibit the same kind of 'sharing' principle as is so evident now in S/W's like "Blender" , So perhaps it's time for RS to take the bull by the horns and make sure that any of these 'default mapping' kinds of 'tripping hazards' are removed from the S/W , maybe in the next major release beyond V6 ?

Default mapping gets its mapping coordinates from the object it's applied to (to some extent, you can actually map it to the camera and whatnot from its properties). If the object hasn't got mapping coordinates, it returns zero -> you get constant shading for shaders like checkers. The functionality is explained in the reference manual
The name might indeed be a bit misleading. Something like "inherited mapping" might be better. Naturally there's no way to fix these things unless someone tells what's wrong, so do tell every time you find something like this.

Thanks . Yes , maybe it's the name that throws me off . I see that it can be a nice quick way to add a shader , but if a user gets in the habit of using it , and then it suddenly doesn't work ... it's a kick in the ass . I have no idea how it could be refined or changed , except maybe by a new more self-explaning name . "Quick Map" , or "Simple Map" maybe ? No idea .
