Speed Modelling Session #1 : Tools

Every two weeks we will start a new Speed Modelling Session. The modelling time will be a fixed, but typically between 1 and 4 hours depending on the subject of the topic.
Threads in this forum can be only opened by the moderators. Post your entry as a reply in the thread containing the session.
The modelling time will be fixed but texturing and Rendering time will be free.
It would be nice if the Models are included with the entry for publishing in the download area of the Render Daemon, however if you would like to keep the model private simply include a wireframe rendering as a part of the entry.
Voting for the winner will be in the contest gallery open for all registered users.

Speed Modelling Session #1 : Tools

Postby TheRookie » Saturday 11. December 2004, 12:44

Contest Finished. Please feel free to post more models if you feel like the challenge though :)

Welcome to the first Speed modelling challenge. These topics are for fun and practice, by setting a speed challenge it encourages you to target practical challenges and hopefully to find ways to improve your workflow. The entries will be judged on the modelling and creativity and not the texuring or lighting but we obviously encourage entrants to make the models look as nice as possible.

The first challenge is 'Tools' this is to tie in with the current Factory contest perhaps you can re-use your object there! Any type of tool you like Spanners, Hammers, Rulers, Sonic Screwdrivers :)

Duration: 2 Weeks, closes Midnight (Forum Time) 25th December
Maximum Modelling Time: 1 Hour
Texturing & Lighting: Unlimited
Maximum Image Size: 800 x 600

All work must be origonal, please include the name of the picture, your name and the modelling time on your image. We would be happy to see models released to the public so they can be placed into the library, however if you need to keep them private you must include a wireframe render as a part of your image.

SpanTastic

Yay first model too! Not that I had an unfair headstart of course :)

This uses a simple chrome material with a sky texture off the RS CD. There is no wire frame as the project file is included here.

thats pretty good man. Im just thinking of what object i can make.

Can we only make wood working and metal working tools? or can we make things like sailors tools or medical tools?

here is a simple hammer :) modelling time: about 30 minutes.
textures in the render are: a slightly modified steel for the hammer head and the unfinished wood shader by Tim Borgmann for the handle.
The pedestal has the standard fresnel shader applied.

the hammer file can be dl here:
http://members.ams.chello.nl/rbroeder/v ... ammer1.r3d
the file is not textured and is only the hammer, not the pedestal.

Nice simple but accurate claw hammer Rob, nice job m8! Milkdrop, the intention was to tie this into Factory Contest that is running this week. So any tool you like really but preferably one that can be used in a factory.

Ear tagger

Postby geo » Monday 13. December 2004, 09:42

Hmm bit out of practice. This is an ear tagger for livestock and wayward family members. Took an hour with false starts and crashes, then half an hour for the tags and output.

File here: (in RS 4.2)

here is a screw driver. Always handy to have around :) modelled in about 15 minutes. I used the 1 cm grid to model the object at more realistic scale. In the end it still is a huge screw driver :)
Anyway here is the render and the object can be dl from:
